How To Cope With Loneliness

blog, spirituality, Uncategorized April 25, 2018

Hello, my dears!

I want to make a special post for mental health week. I know I personally have struggled with mental health issues and have constantly been working on my own recovery for the last five years. I want to address a subject which I know we all have experienced at loneliness in at least a mild form. I have suffered immensely from loneliness and choosing to isolate due to my illness so I know it quite well. I’m going to talk about how you can cope with this feeling and learn from it.

Loneliness is a feeling some of us may feel more than others, but we all feel it at one point. Whether it is feeling lonely when you’re alone, or when you’re in a crowded room, it is still valid for whichever circumstance. Loneliness can make us feel sad, uneasy, and many other emotions which should be processed.

The best part of loneliness, if there is one, is that you can change it. The feeling may not go away immediately but you can try. The best way I find my sadness goes away is by being distracted. Distracting yourself keeps you not only busy but engaged by something productive.

Here are a few things I like to do to keep my mind off being lonely:

  1. Read. Honestly, reading is so helpful because you can escape into another world and find a fictional place or a new found education on a fascinating topic. Find a new book, sit in a comfy chair, and find yourself a cup of tea. This is something you will not regret!

  1. Doodle. This is something you probably did as a kid, but it is something very creative that anyone can do. You simply sit down, think of something you want to draw and turn it into reality. It’s so much fun and you are using your creative energies on something that will make you smile when you are done.

  1. Aromatherapy. I’ve talked about this on my blog before but when I feel low I instantly think to light a candle or use essential oils. They are an instant gratification source which I use a lot. Find an essential oil blend to uplift your mood or relax you! I like to set an intention with each candle I light because it provides a chance to turn over your negative mindset and bring positivity into the moment.

  1. Plan Social Events. I really like to reach out to my friends when I am at the lowest point of loneliness. I know it can be hard, and easier said than done. Text your friend you haven’t reached out to in a while, and see how they are. Even a small amount of communication can bring light to a dark time.

  1. Get outside. Seriously, if you don’t do any of the other things, simply step outside into nature and enjoy it. Whether it’s for five minutes or five hours, you’ll appreciate what you have and realize that this is all just temporary. Tomorrow can bring on anything and you are blessed to be part of it.

These are just a few ways to make feeling lonely not so lonely. Mental health is not something that ever should be pushed aside. It is a very significant part of who we are as humans and self-care should be a priority in everyone’s mind. I am truly grateful for the help I have gotten over the last several years and I hope if you are struggling, you reach out for help. If you want to add anything else, feel free to talk in the comments! I am listening!

Love Always,

Julie

Current Favorites: Spring 2018

Uncategorized April 7, 2018

Hello lovely,

I’m sorry I’ve been gone so long but I am back in full force starting now. I have a lot of new ideas for posts and I hope you can all forgive my absence. So, I thought I’d do a round up of my favorites that I’ve been loving over the last few months since I’ve been gone and I hope you enjoy!

I’ve certainly been loving the Wet and Wild Liquid Lipsticks, the Catsuit formula. I love the color selection and the fact that they do not budge in any way once they are dried down. I also love the price and the fact that they are constantly releasing new shades as well as the fact that they are cruelty-free. My current favorite shade is called “Oh My Dolly”, which is a vibrant hot pink color perfect for the warmer weather.

I have been loving the new Love, Beauty, And Planet Tea Tree shampoo and conditioner. This stuff smells so refreshing and feels like it is actually cleaning my hair unlike many products on the market. It is also a cruelty-free brand and I believe it is also vegan. The quality of the product for the price is also a plus!

I’ve been focusing on doing yoga much more in the last few months. I believe it has really changed the way I operate when stressed and it has a magical sense of relaxation and inner harmony which makes me continue to practice it. I encourage anyone dealing with mental health issues to pursue a trial of yoga at the very least.

Another mental health favorite is a pill organizer. I simply picked up a day and night daily organizer from Walgreens and it has helped me with keeping on track with taking medication. I like that if I forget a dose of medication I can track what I missed. This is a simple act of self-care.

Planning! Obviously, I couldn’t live without a planner. I love to write every solitary task down and check it off at the end of the day for a sense of accomplishment. I was gifted the Law of Attraction planner for Christmas and it has been a wonderful addition to my planning routine. I recommend this planner to anyone who truly wants to change the way they live and their habits and routines.

Well, these are my current favorites and I hope you enjoyed hearing from me after being so scarce the last several months. ❤

Until Next,

Julie

My Sunday Night Routine

Uncategorized November 12, 2017

Hello, my dears!

Today is Sunday which is my favorite day of the week. I personally enjoy it due to being able to sleep in, watch football, and enjoy time with my friends and family. I thought I would go over my Sunday night routine and let you guys in on how I prepare for the week ahead.

My favorite part of Sunday night is doing a little pamper session, which usually starts at 7 PM and I start by taking off my makeup. I take my makeup off with grapeseed oil and then wash my face with Biore baking soda wash. This usually removes all the makeup and the dirt but I then go over with a homemade rose witch hazel toner with a cotton round until my face is definitely clean. After I’ll take a shower and I’ll do all the extra steps which I may not have time for during the week, so I wash my hair, shave my legs, do a scrub (currently using St. Ives Coconut and Coffee scrub for a more exfoliating scrub), and of course I use a yummy smelling body wash, like the Soap and Glory ‘Clean On Me’ or Philosophy ‘Fresh Cream’.  After the shower, I moisturize immediately from top to toe, and I am currently in love with Sea Greens by H20+ Beauty. After, I’ll finish up my skin care routine with a face mask – typically it has been the Aztec Benzanite Clay one, mixed with apple cider vinegar, and let me tell you, it is a strong mask! Once applied and washed off, I will then apply a moisturizer – usually sweet almond oil or Vitamin E oil.

By this time, I feel like a whole new person and I will head to my kitchen to make some tea, which is usually a Yogi tea and it is the Detox tea. I like this detox tea because it is an herbal tea for one and it tastes delicious and I always feel a lot better afterward. I then get out one of my planners (yes, I have multiple) and work on my main schedule for the week. I put in my appointments, meetings, dates with friends, and then I have been adding what blogs I should post and when so I don’t have to mess around with figuring out a topic because I already have the idea written down. I like to decorate my planner as well so I usually add some cute stickers or reminder notes that are positive and will draw my attention to my planner.

After I’m done with my regular planner, I will open up my meal planner for the week. I like to do this before the week starts because I usually have an accurate overview of what is in my fridge seeing as I just went shopping over the weekend. I split my day up into “breakfast”, “lunch”, “dinner”, and “snacks” and write down what I hope to have for each meal. I am not saying I am perfect but it definitely helps to look in advanced before you get so hungry you just eat anything you can get your hands on.

I will then go to my room and take a look at my clothes and will pick out my outfit for Monday along with accessories, shoes, and any other things I need for Monday. I also put my planner in my purse and tidy it up by throwing away any receipts or unnecessary collected items. At this point, I will also tidy up anything in my room that needs to be tidied.

I then will do yoga before I get ready for bed, so I do some basic stretches and yoga movements and try to mentally prepare myself for the stressful upcoming week. I really need this time to focus, meditate, and recuperate – especially after this week, which was very difficult for me.

Lastly, I brush my teeth, put lip balm or Carmex on, and put some lotion on my feet and put socks on. I grab my dog, Bellatrix, and we hit the lights and are fast to sleep..ZZzzzzz.

How To Start Fresh & Make Changes

Uncategorized November 10, 2017

Hello, lovelies!

So today my blog post is going to be about starting fresh or making lifestyle changes when it seems like it is impossible. I have been in situations where it seems like the raincloud will not stop hovering over me and I felt like there was no escape from negativity in my life. I think it is important to remember we can start over and tomorrow, or even right now is a perfect time to do so. Below is an overview of what can help when you have to make a change in your life for the better. This is a repost of a blog I had done on a previous blog but I felt it was fitting for here today.

  • The first step in beginning again is truly spending time discovering what it is that is bothering you and be specific. If you feel, for example, you have been living an unhealthy lifestyle lately, ask yourself what it is that started you to decline on taking care of yourself. Go through and write down every thought you have that is in regards to your issue or issues and acknowledge it IS an issue. Sometimes we lie to ourselves and pretend it is not a huge deal that we are suffering. Anything from negative self-talk to binge drinking and everything in between can affect us more than we realize. The truth is if it is in any way making you uncomfortable, you need to address it but do not feel guilty about it. Write out your feelings, and any emotions you have, fill a notebook, fill two notebooks! This is the most important part of the process!
  • Now that you have written down and dissected the problem, ask yourself what you want to do about it. Is it something that you need to completely remove from your life or is it something you just need to modify? Write this down now. We often have habits we want to change but the task seems daunting. If you state what you specifically intend to change, it makes it easier.
  • Make a plan. You have now written down what is bothering you, you have written down everything that led up to the issue and what feelings you have surrounding it so the next step is to make a plan! So, if your unhealthy lifestyle is what you want to change – how are you going to do that? Make a list of things you can actually start doing, not things you just have good intentions for. This list can be short or a mile long, it doesn’t matter but you need to start somewhere. After this list is done, make another list – the “good intentions” list. These are things you want to get done eventually, but cannot do right away. You can work on these after you have made the original list a priority and a habit.
  • Focus. If you really want to change and start over fresh, it is not easy, and it takes time. There are not many people who are going to tell you they love breaking bad habits or making life changes but you will feel wonderful after you invest your time in making yourself happier and healthier. You are doing this for you and only you so make sure you are focusing on the WHO and WHY, the WHAT, WHERE, WHEN will fall into place.
  • Do it! I honestly feel if you take the time to process your feelings and actions they will be easier to mold into what you desire them to be. If it takes you longer do one of these steps, that isn’t an issue! This is all about you and I know you can do anything you set your mind to, so go ahead and get started on switching the light on in the darkness. You’ve got this, so go get it!

This may have been a more serious toned blog but I honestly believe in this method. The feelings behind our habits/actions/beliefs/attitudes are so important but rarely get addressed. I truly believe taking the time to analyze them and let them be known in their full capacity to ourselves is essential for personal growth.

Until next –

Much love,

Julie

5 Little Ways to Show Yourself Self-Love.

Uncategorized November 3, 2017

Hello, darlings,

So, I think it is evident that I am a strong encourager of self-love, self-care, and increasing your self-esteem through your actions. I thought I’d break it down into 5 ways to promote self-love on a daily basis.

  1. Be conscious of your inner voice. Often we entrap ourselves in a world of our own and in that world sometimes we have a very negative outlook on ourselves. Try to change this if this is the case simply by addressing the fact that you have these thoughts, and be aware of how they make you feel and try to adjust them into more positive, loving thoughts. It is perfectly okay if this does not feel comfortable right away and it will take practice, but you’ll get used to thinking more pleasant thoughts over time.
  2. Treat yourself. Honestly, we spend most of our time, efforts, and money on other people or things that are standard priorities. It is often that we forget that we deserve a little pick me up, or treat. Whether this is a candy bar, or a new scarf or purse, or even a luxury makeup product we absolutely deserve it and it will remind us we are worthy of it!
  3. Set priorities. Knowing your priorities in life is essential to self-love because it means when you make them a priority or accomplish your goals that you have taken time and invested in yourself. You need to feel like you have a purpose in life and your purpose needs to come from a source that makes you feel good and whole. So, simply make a list of these things and work on them. If most of your time is being put into other things that are not on this list, try to make a change.
  4. Take to the “bare necessities.” Remember to hydrate, eat wholesomely, get enough sleep. and stay active. These are the bare necessities which will absolutely help with self-love and improve self-esteem because no matter what is going on around you as long as you are taking care of these necessary items, you will have the energy and the health to focus on any other issues that may arise.
  5. Meditate and focus. So, the last bit of advice I can give for improving self-love and awareness is to meditate. This is so vital to improving your relationship with yourself because it gives you time to be with yourself! You can either choose to address your thoughts or simply let yourself be free and tranquil. It’s all up to you but no matter what, you need to spend time with yourself and allow yourself to get through your thoughts and emotions. It is essential!

This is a very small list of things, and I may continue this list in an upcoming post but please try to think of yourself this weekend. Make yourself your priority and you will blossom and bloom.

Much love,

Julie

Self-Care Routine for Fall

Uncategorized November 2, 2017

pexels-photo-275765.jpegWe all have moments where life is too stressful and we feel like there is no escaping it. These days can come on quickly and we need to soothe ourselves just as quickly because walking around and interacting with others when we are in distress can only cause more distress. My easiest way to combat these stressful times is to take time for myself as soon as I can and try to get back to a state of moderate stress instead of overwhelming stress. I do this with a self-care routine and I thought I’d share my self-care routine for fall.

In the colder months, it is easy to sit inside all day and not get the fresh air and reverie we need. Pushing yourself to get outside even if for ten minutes is going to bring light back to your day and you will feel refreshed and happier, I promise.

My next step in self-care is to tidy up your spac.e. We often neglect our rooms or apartments or houses if we are under large amounts of stress so now is the time to look after your home and give it a clean, even if it’s just picking your clothes off your bedroom floor. I personally like to clean my bathroom, kitchen, and bedroom and do things like changing the sheets on my bed, or just simply emptying and loading the dishwasher.

I like to journal. I journal in a few different ways but when I really need to feel better I journal all the things in my mind that I cannot seem to express with words out loud. It is sometimes so overwhelming to have too many thoughts in our heads at once so getting them out on paper allows some room to be filled with better, more positive thoughts.

One of the most calming things for me is to take care of my physical body, and with that, I like to do yoga for relaxation and for stretching. Sometimes I do a small workout to get my sweat and stress out. After I do some sort of physical activity I like to do a little pamper session with a shower where I spend time doing a scrub, hair mask, etc. I usually use warmer/sweeter scents for lotions and perfumes during the fall.

Tea is one of my favorite things to drink in my everyday routine but it’s even more relaxing when I’m focusing on self-care and have been relaxing prior. After enjoying some tea, I love to watch relaxing Youtube videos, like Charlotte Tilbury’s makeup tutorials (she has such a soothing voice) or ASMR videos before I go to bed.

Overall, just taking time to myself is the best way to practice self-care for me.

I hope you all have a relaxing evening!
