Soap And Glory Melty Talented Dry Skin Balm; Review

Hello, my loves!

I hope your weekend is going well so far. I have had one of the best weeks I have had in a long time! Anyways, I thought today I could bring you another quick review. It is on the Soap And Glory Melty Talented Dry Skin Balm.

I bought this balm a few weeks ago and I have really been enjoying it ever since. The Melty Talented is a pink colored balm, which has a solid consistency at room temperature but once warmed up against fingertips, it turns into a soothing oil. It claims it is for dry lips, hair tips, elbows, knees, and cuticles.

I  have mostly used it on my knees and elbows and I can say it is a very fast acting oil for dry skin. I have chronically dry skin when seasons change and this has prevented me from having to layer on thick creams which takes a lot more time to rub in usually. With this balm it rubs in instantly and there isn’t even too much of a greasy feel to it either. The smell is amazing and is a warm, vanilla cupcake scent. This product retails for $6 USD for 1 o.z. (a little goes a long way) and can be found at Walgreens or on Soap and Glory’s website.

I can recommend this product to anyone who wants soft, great smelling skin, at a fair price. I love Soap and Glory, and often feel the brand is not always given recognition even when their products are stellar!

Well, I hope you enjoyed my review and if you have any Soap and Glory products you can recommend I would absolutely love to hear about them! So, leave them in the comments!

Until Next Time,

Julie

12 Steps To More Youthful-Looking Skin

Hello, my dears!

We all have a desire to have youthful, soft, and glowing skin but sometimes it is difficult to keep up with grueling regimes of anti-aging products, massages, and treatments. Today’s blog post will be on 12 basic steps you can take to gain healthier looking skin and prevent premature aging. I personally am working on protecting my skin from future damage and I believe everyone can aid their skin to look its best without spending a fortune.

12 Steps To More Youthful-Looking Skin

  1. Healthy skin begins with moisture. Moisturizing provides the skin with essential nutrients which allow the skin to heal and stay supple and soft. Look for moisturizers with components like vitamin C, E, and A as well as high-quality alpha hydroxy acids.
  2. Stay out of the sun. UV radiation accelerates the aging process of the skin, which leads to fine lines and wrinkles prematurely. While being out in the sun is wonderful for vitamin D production, it is not recommended to be outside for extended periods of time without protection and protective clothing.
  3. Get plenty of sleep. Sleeping enough (around 7-8 hours a night) can reduce under eye circles or baggy under eyes. It also is the period when our skin restores itself. Be aware of your sleep habits and your skin will thank you!
  4. Wash your face twice a day. I know it can be easy to pass up the morning cleanse but try to make sure you are cleansing both in the morning and before bed. Choose a gentle cleanser in the morning and a deep cleanser at night that will remove any makeup or build up from the day. This will not only provide clean skin but also prevent aging your skin!
  5. Take your vitamins. Vitamin A, C, and E all keep the skin looking healthy. There are many options for multivitamins which you can take to keep a glow to your skin. If you are struggling to find what will work for you, contact your dermatologist.
  6. Drink plenty of water. Water is an essential part of preventing aging skin. You can moisturize all day but if you are not hydrated from within, your skin will be dry and will result in looking fatigued.
  7. Eat a healthy diet. Eating foods that are high in antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids — such as flaxseed, salmon, and dark-green vegetables — helps your body fight off free radicals that can damage your skin. Avoid processed foods and foods high in sugar, which may contribute to breaking down your skin’s collagen.
  8. Avoid cigarettes. Cigarette smoke contains a chemical that can break down the collagen and elastin in your skin, which leads to wrinkles and premature aging.
  9. Always exfoliate. Exfoliating helps brighten the skin and make it look and feel more polished. It helps remove dead skin cells and can even lighten the appearance of acne scars.
  10. Cut down on stress. Getting stressed regularly increases cortisol levels in your body, which in turn puts excess stress on your body. Too much stress makes your skin tired and speeds the aging process. Nobody needs extra stress in their lives, so make it a habit to exercise regularly or practice meditation.
  11. Wear sunglasses. The skin around your eyes is especially sensitive, so wearing large sunglasses helps protect it from UV rays. They also reduce squinting, which prevents crow’s feet and wrinkles.
  12. See a dermatologist or plastic surgeon. Perhaps most important for keeping your skin looking younger is seeking professional help. A dermatologist or plastic surgeon can help you create a skin care regimen that’s ideally suited for your skin type and help identify areas where your skin needs more attention. Healthy Habits, No Diets.

Happy Tuesday everyone!

So, today I am going to be talking about nutrition and fitness. I am by no means a licensed professional but I do have a lot of experience since I have dealt with an eating disorder and have gone on so many diets that I have lost count. Due to these unhealthy actions, I have finally realized what is actually healthy and what works for me and may work for you.

Dieting is not healthy, and starving yourself is not healthy. The only way to truly be healthy is to take care of your body, meet the needs it needs and continue to do this over the course of your life. Losing weight fast and then gaining even more back is not what you want. So, today I’m just going to go over some tips to help you gain more control over your health and make it simple.

So,

  1. Drink water. Do not drink seltzer, do not drink soda, diet soda, or flavored drinks which have no sugar but are high in aspartame. Anything carbonated will leave you bloated.  Pure water is the best drink for those trying to lose weight.
  2. Drink tea. Tea is something that will always be beneficial as long as you are making it fresh and not adding a ton of sweeteners. I think drinking tea can not only help with weight loss (green tea, oolong) but it can also slow you down if you are planning on reaching for something unhealthy. The process of making tea takes a bit so it will give you a chance to gather your thoughts and enjoy the moment.
  3. Aim to work out every day. I have been trying this method myself and if I aim to work out every day instead of specific days I will do more working out during the week. This is the case because even if one day I don’t feel like working out, I will be working out the next day and won’t feel bad if I miss one workout throughout the week.
  4. Keep one meal consistent throughout the week. I feel like this is a great thing to do because not only does it make your grocery bill less, it also helps you to not have to worry about this meal. I personally think breakfast is the best to keep consistent because time is not always available later in the day. If you eat a healthy breakfast you are also setting yourself up for success for the rest of the day because you have chosen a healthy meal and you aren’t going to want to start eating junk right away after.
  5. Try yoga/meditation in the afternoon. I can fully back up that this has been the best time for yoga/meditation in my day. I say this because prior to the afternoon we may have had a bumpy start, or a few bad moments already and we need time to clear ourselves of that tension before we start on the later part of our day. I feel doing yoga in the afternoon also makes me more productive in the evening as far as being on task and also doing an evening workout.
  6. Don’t compare/Let anyone influence your progress. So, it’s easy to hop on social media or flip through a magazine and compare yourself to others but this isn’t going to help you. Often in the past, I would go online and compare myself to other women or watch a movie and wish I had her figure but the truth is this isn’t about them and it isn’t about being a certain shape or size, it’s about getting healthy and living your life happily instead of miserable. You are doing this for you and never forget you are the reason you started, you are the one doing the work. No matter what anyone says, they aren’t you and you are the only one who knows how hard you are working so don’t let anyone’s opinions influence you.
  7. Go to bed earlier. This may seem like a tip everyone gives about everything, but it is true for weight loss. When you are on a normal schedule, your body will thank you. Sleeping lets your body restore the energy you so desperately need when you are exercising and being active during the day. I also know when I stay up for hours on end, I end up eating late at night and it’s usually something not healthy so I’ve made it a goal to go to sleep at a normal hour. So get some zzzs!
  8. Educate yourself. Learning about nutrition and fitness are so very important when you’re beginning a change of lifestyle. There are so many different ways people get healthy and one may not work for you but another may. My advice is to literally spend as much time as you possibly can to get informed about what is available to you and how your health can benefit from what is.
  9. Take it personally. As stated above, there is so much information about health and wellness that you will need to look at it as it is related to you. Don’t feel like you need to try a specific exercise or meal plan just because it says it will help you lose weight. You need to know what will and won’t work for you and even if that means changing very little, so be it. Every change you make counts but don’t ever feel pressured to live a certain way just because others are.
  10. Love yourself.  Sometimes when we are not at a healthy weight we forget it’s okay. There’s often anxiety that comes with starting over, and we often look at our past and wonder how we got here but it’s life and it comes with living. There’s no perfect size, shape, weight, height, etc. We are all beautiful and all deserve love. If you don’t love yourself, you will never be able to change. Trust me, it has taken me almost ten years to recover from an eating disorder and I am only now seeing regardless of my size I love myself and you should too!

Other ideas:

  • Add protein to your meals in the form of tuna, nut butter, hummus, chia seeds, greek yogurt.
  • Add spinach or kale to your smoothies
  • Keep track of nutrients on an app or in a notebook
  • If you’re craving chocolate, drink a hot chocolate or add a few dark chocolate chips to yogurt
  • If you want juice but don’t want a spike in sugar, try adding a little to water and drinking that instead
  • Keep a reusable water bottle in the fridge for workouts, it might inspire you to grab a healthier option if you see it in there and it will be ready for your next workout.
  • Try popping some homemade popcorn and eating that instead of the ones covered in butter. You can use coconut oil for extra flavor.
  • Don’t restrict! Make sure you’re eating enough and drinking enough. Your body will go into starvation mode if you do not have enough calories and you will gain more weight than you lost next time you decide to eat normally.

These are honestly things I know work, I have been dealing with losing and gaining weight my whole life but I can stand behind these tips. I hope some of them work for you! Leave some of your own in the comments if you feel like it, and I hope you all have a great rest of your day!

Love,

Julie

Budget Friendly Shopping Ideas

Hello, my dears!

We have all been there when the budget we have is low, and we are bored but want to shop. I have been there quite a few times and I thought I’d share a few things you could do when your budget doesn’t allow some of the other plans you hoped for.

  1. Thrift Shop. So, some people have reservations about thrifting but I believe it can be one of the most fun and economically friendly past times. There’s plenty of items you can purchase at the thrift store besides clothes. I like to look at the vintage teacups or even the paper supplies. There’s plenty of clothes or items for your home like furniture or decorations. Basically, you can go here and spend less than twenty dollars and go home happy so it’s definitely a budget-friendly option.
  2. Second Hand Book Store. This is similar to the thrift shopping but there are gobs and gobs of books! I love to learn and read but sometimes books can get expensive so I love going to second-hand bookstores and spending a long time looking for something that will keep me entertained for hours.
  3. Dollar Tree. Honestly, the dollar tree is great for anyone who wants to do art projects or decorate their home for the season. You can get anything from candles to mirrors, to decorative ornaments. They have a pretty well-stocked paper supply section and always have tons of stickers! Also, their candy aisle is always a treat!
  4. Tj-Maxx. Tj-Maxx has recently become one of my favorite stores, especially for skin care items. They have a wonderful selection of high-end products which you can pay a fraction of the price for. They also have clothes, home goods, even tea, and snacks!

I thought it would be fun to write this post because I know I am always looking for a deal or to pay less for quality items. If you have any other ideas for budget-friendly shopping leave them in a comment below! ❤

Current Favorites: Spring 2018

Hello lovely,

I’m sorry I’ve been gone so long but I am back in full force starting now. I have a lot of new ideas for posts and I hope you can all forgive my absence. So, I thought I’d do a round up of my favorites that I’ve been loving over the last few months since I’ve been gone and I hope you enjoy!

I’ve certainly been loving the Wet and Wild Liquid Lipsticks, the Catsuit formula. I love the color selection and the fact that they do not budge in any way once they are dried down. I also love the price and the fact that they are constantly releasing new shades as well as the fact that they are cruelty-free. My current favorite shade is called “Oh My Dolly”, which is a vibrant hot pink color perfect for the warmer weather.

I have been loving the new Love, Beauty, And Planet Tea Tree shampoo and conditioner. This stuff smells so refreshing and feels like it is actually cleaning my hair unlike many products on the market. It is also a cruelty-free brand and I believe it is also vegan. The quality of the product for the price is also a plus!

I’ve been focusing on doing yoga much more in the last few months. I believe it has really changed the way I operate when stressed and it has a magical sense of relaxation and inner harmony which makes me continue to practice it. I encourage anyone dealing with mental health issues to pursue a trial of yoga at the very least.

Another mental health favorite is a pill organizer. I simply picked up a day and night daily organizer from Walgreens and it has helped me with keeping on track with taking medication. I like that if I forget a dose of medication I can track what I missed. This is a simple act of self-care.

Planning! Obviously, I couldn’t live without a planner. I love to write every solitary task down and check it off at the end of the day for a sense of accomplishment. I was gifted the Law of Attraction planner for Christmas and it has been a wonderful addition to my planning routine. I recommend this planner to anyone who truly wants to change the way they live and their habits and routines.

Well, these are my current favorites and I hope you enjoyed hearing from me after being so scarce the last several months. ❤

Until Next,

Julie

My Sunday Night Routine

Hello, my dears!

Today is Sunday which is my favorite day of the week. I personally enjoy it due to being able to sleep in, watch football, and enjoy time with my friends and family. I thought I would go over my Sunday night routine and let you guys in on how I prepare for the week ahead.

My favorite part of Sunday night is doing a little pamper session, which usually starts at 7 PM and I start by taking off my makeup. I take my makeup off with grapeseed oil and then wash my face with Biore baking soda wash. This usually removes all the makeup and the dirt but I then go over with a homemade rose witch hazel toner with a cotton round until my face is definitely clean. After I’ll take a shower and I’ll do all the extra steps which I may not have time for during the week, so I wash my hair, shave my legs, do a scrub (currently using St. Ives Coconut and Coffee scrub for a more exfoliating scrub), and of course I use a yummy smelling body wash, like the Soap and Glory ‘Clean On Me’ or Philosophy ‘Fresh Cream’.  After the shower, I moisturize immediately from top to toe, and I am currently in love with Sea Greens by H20+ Beauty. After, I’ll finish up my skin care routine with a face mask – typically it has been the Aztec Benzanite Clay one, mixed with apple cider vinegar, and let me tell you, it is a strong mask! Once applied and washed off, I will then apply a moisturizer – usually sweet almond oil or Vitamin E oil.

By this time, I feel like a whole new person and I will head to my kitchen to make some tea, which is usually a Yogi tea and it is the Detox tea. I like this detox tea because it is an herbal tea for one and it tastes delicious and I always feel a lot better afterward. I then get out one of my planners (yes, I have multiple) and work on my main schedule for the week. I put in my appointments, meetings, dates with friends, and then I have been adding what blogs I should post and when so I don’t have to mess around with figuring out a topic because I already have the idea written down. I like to decorate my planner as well so I usually add some cute stickers or reminder notes that are positive and will draw my attention to my planner.

After I’m done with my regular planner, I will open up my meal planner for the week. I like to do this before the week starts because I usually have an accurate overview of what is in my fridge seeing as I just went shopping over the weekend. I split my day up into “breakfast”, “lunch”, “dinner”, and “snacks” and write down what I hope to have for each meal. I am not saying I am perfect but it definitely helps to look in advanced before you get so hungry you just eat anything you can get your hands on.

I will then go to my room and take a look at my clothes and will pick out my outfit for Monday along with accessories, shoes, and any other things I need for Monday. I also put my planner in my purse and tidy it up by throwing away any receipts or unnecessary collected items. At this point, I will also tidy up anything in my room that needs to be tidied.

I then will do yoga before I get ready for bed, so I do some basic stretches and yoga movements and try to mentally prepare myself for the stressful upcoming week. I really need this time to focus, meditate, and recuperate – especially after this week, which was very difficult for me.

Lastly, I brush my teeth, put lip balm or Carmex on, and put some lotion on my feet and put socks on. I grab my dog, Bellatrix, and we hit the lights and are fast to sleep..ZZzzzzz.
