Safe Sun: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Sunscreen Review

Hello, my loves!

img_8502

The weather is warming up and we all want sun protection anyways on an everyday basis, so I thought I’d review the new Neutrogena Hydro Boost Sunscreen.

I’ve been using this product for about four weeks now, and it has completely changed the way I look at facial sunscreens. Some of you may have used some of the hydro boost products from Neutrogena in the past, like their gel moisturizer which is particularly popular.

This sunscreen is on the similar texture as their gel moisturizer. It is a thin consistency formula with major hydrating properties.  I like the fact that you can apply this sunscreen and it will easily absorb into your skin instead of sitting there wondering when it ever will.

As for the actual protection, it comes in SPF 30 and SPF 50, and it provides UVA/UVB protection. It comes with Helioplex which is a formula made with avobenzone and oxybenzone which apparently are able to absorb the sun rays instead of your skin doing so. This protective product is also water resistant which means you can sweat or swim and it will still keep the same amount of protection!

The smell is also a factor I hear many people complaining about with regular sunscreen. This does not smell like regular sunscreen whatsoever, but rather has a softer floral scent. The scent does not linger and to me is not overpowering.

Wearing sunscreen under makeup is something I do every day, so it is important for me to not look extra greasy or too matte and this does neither. It is simply like applying a light gel moisturizer on your face and that’s it! You can barely tell you’re wearing it and it does not mess with the texture of your makeup, – if anything it adds a soft, radiant glow without the oil. This sunscreen also does not break me out! Whatsoever! And I have very sensitive skin when it comes to sunscreen.

Lastly, the price is unbelievable for the amount of product you are getting. You are paying $10 USD (bought at Target) for 3.0 fl oz. (88mL). I think it is well worth practicing safe sun for the price, especially with how nice of a product you are getting.

I am beyond impressed with this sunscreen and I’ve struggled for a long time to find one that doesn’t break me out, doesn’t cost a lot, is enough SPF, etc. I’m so glad I picked this up! You should definitely try this if you are looking for a non-detectable sunscreen. I wish it hadn’t taken them so long to come out with this formula, but it’s a good thing they did now.

I know I can sometimes rant and rave about many products on my blog but it is often because I want you to know the products I am loving as opposed to mediocre products. However, I will try to add in some beware before buys!

As always, I hope you enjoyed my Sunday review! I really love this time of the week. As always, let me know your opinion if you’ve tried this or if you have a sunscreen you love!

Until Next,

Julie

My Current Desk Essentials

Hello, my darlings!

I have been working a lot from home lately and I have become custom to having certain items near me when I work. I typically use the desk I have in my bedroom for work but lately, I’ve been using my kitchen space to do most of my work. I like to have a large area to stretch and feel like I am able to visualize my work. I actually reorganize my office space a lot and I may even work on doing that again soon, but for now, I just wanted to share what I like to use on a daily basis to get work done and stay motivated.

img_7721Pens. We all use them, we all love them! I love having a variety of pens, specifically colored ones so I can use them to color various tasks or use them to underline important figures. Highlighters and sharpies are also a key utensil for me for my work, seeing as I do some illustration work and like to do the rough drafts with sharpies a lot of the time.

Notepads. I literally use notepads, notebooks, anything, all the time. I write down endless amounts of lists so I need endless amounts of notebooks. I have fun with them because they are all so cute and decorated so lovely.

Inspirational books. There’s a time of day when you don’t want to keep working and you just want to goof off, so there should be some sort of motivational quote, or a book, or an inspirational board you can look at and gain inspiration from. If you don’t have something like this, I highly recommend it!

img_7722Sketchbook. I personally use sketchbooks for doodles or for ideas for designs or simply just using them to take a break from work for a little while and write poetry. It’s just nice to have a large sketchbook in my opinion.

Healthy Snacks. I really like Larabars lately, and they are vegan so I’m loving that even more. You could really have any snack though, sometimes I like hummus and veggies or apples and peanut butter. Seeing as your desk is at home, the possibilities are endless!

img_7723

Hand Creams. Who can’t get enough hand cream? I love having hand cream by my side just to soften them and the smell of the basil and fig one is divine! The Nivea one is great for winter.

Chapstick. Chapstick is also always a great item to have on your desk because chapped lips can happen at any time and you want soft lips!

img_7724

Coffee, Tea, Water. I really like to have a beverage by my side at all times. I personally like iced beverages so I make an iced coffee, tea, or iced water and I’m set! I do drink a lot of water during the day and you should try to as well, it definitely helps with afternoon energy dives.

The other things I like to have on my desk are my agenda, little trinkets, a calendar, post-it notes, and other things that just make me motivated to do more work.

What are the essentials for your desk? I’d love to know! Leave me a comment! I seriously am obsessed with paper products and anything that has to do with organization so I’m always looking for ideas!

Hope you are all having a lovely day,

Julie

Dr. Bronner’s Lavender Pure Castile Soap Review

Hello, my loves! Happy Earth Day!

img_5089

Today is Earth Day and it is also review Sunday, so I thought it would be fitting to provide a review about an organic, vegan, and cruelty-free product that also uses recycled materials for the packaging.

Dr. Bronner’s is known for their liquid castile soap, which is a combination of various oils like organic coconut oil,  organic palm kernel oil, organic olive oil, organic hemp oil, organic jojoba oil, and essential oils, in combination with a minimal list of other ingredients.  Dr. Bronner’s is a company which also uses certified fair trade ingredients in their products.

The particular one I have been using is the lavender castile soap (retails for $3.99-$70.00 depending on quantity). I personally use this product as a body wash, as well as a shampoo and sometimes a facial wash. First of all, I really enjoy the subtle lavender scent that is not overpowering. The fragrance has a calming effect, especially when used before bed.

The key to this product is diluting it with water because it is easy to be overpowered by the oils or other components of the ingredients.

When I actually use the product, the results are wonderful. I use this as a clarifying shampoo because it makes my hair feel so clean. I typically will then go in with another shampoo to bring some moisture back because I do feel like this does make your hair a little dry on its own.

As a body wash, this does not really lather up like most. It provides a clean feeling, however, and leaves the skin feel soft. As a facial cleanser, this is a nice gentle one that does a nice job. I would personally use this in the morning to get any dirt off from sleep as opposed to a nightly cleanser where it needs to be more vigorous.

There are other ways you can use this product for, like washing dishes, doing laundry, washing your dog, or even shaving.

In my opinion, there is something to be said about a company that goes out of its way and makes it their mission to provide sustainable products that can be used in ways many traditional products cannot. I hope we can all do our part in the future to become more eco-friendly and less harmful to the environment. I know it is difficult but even making small steps like purchasing from companies such as Dr. Bronner’s it will help more than you know.

I highly recommend this product to anyone who wants a versatile soap that will be effective and leave you squeaky clean!

If you’ve tried any of Dr. Bronner’s products, let me know how you feel about them in the comments or if you have any other eco-friendly brands we should know about!

Love always,

Julie

Bliss “In The Honey’ Mask Review

Hello, dears!

img_4871

I recently picked up a new mask from Target and I thought I’d do a review on it since it is a newer release to Target and I want you to be able to make an informed decision before purchasing. The mask is the “in the honey” mask by Bliss.

The “in the honey” mask retails for $16 USD for 50ML or 1.7 fl oz. It is available at Target, Ulta, and online at Blissworld.com. So, the initial reason I purchased this mask was that of the name and knowing that there was going to be honey in it. I personally love honey when it comes to skincare because it is so moisturizing and anti-inflammatory. This mask is supposed to be a moisturizing mask as opposed to a pore cleansing or purifying mask.

img_4870

The mask is a thick, but not sticky, honey-colored almost gel formula. It smells just like it is described as a honey-lavender mask. The active ingredients in this mask are as follows:

  • Acacia Honey: Rich in natural sugars, it draws moisture to skin to create a hydrating veil while antioxidants protect against oxidative and environmental damage.
  • Honey Extract: Boosts moisture and radiance in depleted skin.
  • Propolis Extract: Also called “bee glue,” as in the hive, it is used to seal and protect the hive and its chambers that house baby bees; used since ancient times to balance, heal and soothe skin.
  • Squalane: Plant sugar-derived moisturizer balances skin by improving water reserves and limiting moisture loss.
  • Cocoa Seed Extract: Contains high levels of antioxidants to help protect from damage while soothing skin for an improved complexion.
  • Lavender Oil: Known for its antioxidant and skin-calming properties.

To use, you simply apply a layer of product and wait about 10-15 minutes before washing off, and follow with pat drying.

The results of this mask, for me, were wonderful.  I truly could see a visible difference in the redness of my face (which I assume is from the lavender) and the moisture that was left behind was so good that I woke up the next morning with subtle, nourished skin.

I think this product is well worth the money and I can see myself getting a number of applications out of this product. I believe any skin type could use this mask without irritation or complications. I did not break out from this mask and that’s another bonus for me!

Overall, I give this product the thumbs up in my book. I will definitely be looking at buying more Bliss products in the future and you should let me know in the comments if you have tried this mask or any other Bliss products!

Until Next,

Julie

12 Steps To More Youthful-Looking Skin

Hello, my dears!

We all have a desire to have youthful, soft, and glowing skin but sometimes it is difficult to keep up with grueling regimes of anti-aging products, massages, and treatments. Today’s blog post will be on 12 basic steps you can take to gain healthier looking skin and prevent premature aging. I personally am working on protecting my skin from future damage and I believe everyone can aid their skin to look its best without spending a fortune.

12 Steps To More Youthful-Looking Skin

  1. Healthy skin begins with moisture. Moisturizing provides the skin with essential nutrients which allow the skin to heal and stay supple and soft. Look for moisturizers with components like vitamin C, E, and A as well as high-quality alpha hydroxy acids.
  2. Stay out of the sun. UV radiation accelerates the aging process of the skin, which leads to fine lines and wrinkles prematurely. While being out in the sun is wonderful for vitamin D production, it is not recommended to be outside for extended periods of time without protection and protective clothing.
  3. Get plenty of sleep. Sleeping enough (around 7-8 hours a night) can reduce under eye circles or baggy under eyes. It also is the period when our skin restores itself. Be aware of your sleep habits and your skin will thank you!
  4. Wash your face twice a day. I know it can be easy to pass up the morning cleanse but try to make sure you are cleansing both in the morning and before bed. Choose a gentle cleanser in the morning and a deep cleanser at night that will remove any makeup or build up from the day. This will not only provide clean skin but also prevent aging your skin!
  5. Take your vitamins. Vitamin A, C, and E all keep the skin looking healthy. There are many options for multivitamins which you can take to keep a glow to your skin. If you are struggling to find what will work for you, contact your dermatologist.
  6. Drink plenty of water. Water is an essential part of preventing aging skin. You can moisturize all day but if you are not hydrated from within, your skin will be dry and will result in looking fatigued.
  7. Eat a healthy diet. Eating foods that are high in antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids — such as flaxseed, salmon, and dark-green vegetables — helps your body fight off free radicals that can damage your skin. Avoid processed foods and foods high in sugar, which may contribute to breaking down your skin’s collagen.
  8. Avoid cigarettes. Cigarette smoke contains a chemical that can break down the collagen and elastin in your skin, which leads to wrinkles and premature aging.
  9. Always exfoliate. Exfoliating helps brighten the skin and make it look and feel more polished. It helps remove dead skin cells and can even lighten the appearance of acne scars.
  10. Cut down on stress. Getting stressed regularly increases cortisol levels in your body, which in turn puts excess stress on your body. Too much stress makes your skin tired and speeds the aging process. Nobody needs extra stress in their lives, so make it a habit to exercise regularly or practice meditation.
  11. Wear sunglasses. The skin around your eyes is especially sensitive, so wearing large sunglasses helps protect it from UV rays. They also reduce squinting, which prevents crow’s feet and wrinkles.
  12. See a dermatologist or plastic surgeon. Perhaps most important for keeping your skin looking younger is seeking professional help. A dermatologist or plastic surgeon can help you create a skin care regimen that’s ideally suited for your skin type and help identify areas where your skin needs more attention. Side Hustles: A Petite Guide

Hello, lovelies!

jmk.png

Today’s topic is side hustles. I thought it is a topic that anyone can utilize information from. I personally have a few side hustles and I make a decent amount of money doing work on them. So, let’s start!

First, you need to narrow down your interests and what you are actually capable of doing and have enough time for. Do you like fashion? Do you like selling inventory? Do you enjoy writing? Do you have 30 minutes a week to dedicate or 10 hours a week?

Once you find out what you want to do, start searching online. These are just some ideas of side hustles you can get into:

  1. Sell Your Closet. I  spent about two hours maximum working on posting items on PoshMark and made over $100. I did the same on eBay. All you need is description writing skills and time to respond to e-mails. You can schedule package pickup from USPS and you’ve made money without leaving your house or having to invest in any programs.
  2. Freelance Write. This is a perfect position for those who want to set their own schedule or only pick up a few jobs here and there. You will be contracted to write the thread or perhaps even write articles for magazines like Cosmo or Country Living. The possibilities are endless for freelance writing. I am not saying it isn’t going to take time but it is mostly in your hands how much you want to spend on the project.
  3. Etsy. You can be creative and work on your craft while making money. I personally don’t have a ton of experience with selling on Etsy but it is profitable for those who have a strong creative drive. I highly recommend this for the entrepreneurs out there!
  4. Blog. You can monetize a blog as long as you have the time to put into high-quality content. There’s no end to how much income you could add to your life when you run your own blog/website.
  5. Sell essential oils. This is something that is perfect for those who want a little extra income each month and who enjoy marketing a holistic lifestyle. DoTerra and Young Living are two I immediately think of!  This can also be done with other companies like Avon, Mary Kay, etc.
  6. Write Reviews! You can sign up to be sent things from beauty products to books, to wellness tools and be paid to write reviews or sent free products. Try the website Tomoson, it’s perfect for small bloggers/Instagram accounts/twitter accounts. You can also try joining a book review site called onlinebookclub.org. I just joined and got a free book on my first day of joining!

With side hustles, it is all a matter of using your talents and having fun. Side hustling adds a bonus income and you do not want to spend your time doing something you hate on top of your fulltime job. There are many more jobs I didn’t mention and you can take a look at the internet and discover what is right for you.

Good luck, leave me a comment if you have anything you want to ask or share!
